LOVE SONGS

LoveSongs1

After the great success of Arcade’s Elvis 40 Greatest (1975), K-Tel England wanted to release a follow-up in 1979. They bought the  rights from RCA for 20 well-known ballads and  released them on the Love Songs album. From the start, the TV album was a huge success. It reached No. 4 in the charts with sales of approx 250.000 copies sold within 12 months! It was an instant chart topper all over Europe and in many other countries (in Argentina and Brazil it was released as Love Collection). In Holland, it went to No. 18 in the charts. Strangely, this album was not released in the US until 1981, but then it contained only 16 songs instead of 20. Worldwide sales of Love Songs are now approx 1.000.000 copies.

The designer of the front sleeve probably had a bad day (or he just didn’t like the King) when he put together the cover for this album. It’s one of the very few success albums with such a horrible front sleeve, using a blown-up 1970’s Elvis picture. When the album was re- released in 1981, K-Tel used a much better picture of Elvis, taken from his legendary 1968 NBC TV- Special.  Here you will have both front covers, so you can choose your own favorite.

Despite it’s classic status and the fact that many fans grew up with this album in their collection, it was never released on a properly pressed CD.  The 26 songs on this new album (20 original album tracks + 6 rare bonus tracks) are some of the best love songs that Elvis recorded. Suspicious Minds is included here as its the rare version without the horn overdubs and the famous fade-out / fade in at the end of the song. This version is hard to find and only available on a few RCA  cd releases.

The bonus tracks includes two rare and unfinished master recordings of Almost In Love and My Little Friend, the beautiful take 2 of You’ll Never Walk Alone, the stunning take 1 of Its Easy For You, a differend, unused mix of the master of Pledging My Love  and also an alternate mix of Puppet On A String.

LoveSongs2

This, 500 pressed CD release,  comes in a stunning 6-panel digipack with original artwork. It sure looks like a miniature version of the original album. This is the ultimate Valentines gift for 2012!  Buy a copy now for your own collection or as a perfect Valentines ift for the one(s) you love!

Tracklisting: It’s Now Or Never / She’s Not You / Love Letters / Anything That’s Part Of You / Surrender / Kentucky Rain / Suspicious Minds / You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me / I Just Can’t Help Believing / The Wonder Of You / Can’t Help Falling In Love / Always On My Mind / Love Me Tender / Loving You / I Want You, I Need You, I Love You / Wooden Heart / Are You Lonesome Tonight / Just Pretend / Until It’s Time For You To Go / Memories. Bonus Tracks: You’ll Never Walk Alone (alternate take 2) / Puppet On A String (alternate mix) / Pledging My Love (alternate master mix) / It’s Easy For You (take 1) / Almost In Love (vocal overdub, incl. count-in) / My Little Friend (unfinished master, incl. count-in).

LAST TIME IN SPECTRUM

Last

Coming within days is Elvis’ show from May 28th 1977 at the Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA.  Elvis just played two very good concerts in Binghamton, NY, but in Philly, he was at far from his best. A young Bruce Springsteen was in the audience and it is no wonder he later stated that “it was not a good night”. Nevertheless, Elvis gave strong performances of My Way, And I Love You So and Hurt. Polk Salad Annie was played for one of last times here.

This recording is taken from an early generation copy of the original tape. Many years ago, a heavily edited version in bad sound was released on bootleg vinyl and later on CD. Now you have an opportunity to listen the COMPLETE recording in much improved audio quality.

Tracklisting: Also Sprach Zarathustra / CC Rider / I Got A Woman - Amen / Love Me / My Way / Jailhouse Rock / You Gave Me A Mountain / O Sole Mio (Sherrill Nielsen) / It’s Now Or Never / Little Sister (with break) / Teddy Bear - Don’t Be Cruel / And I Love You So / Polk Salad Annie / Band Introductions / Early Mornin’ Rain / What’d I Say / Johnny B. Goode / Drum Solo (Ronnie Tutt) / Bass Solo (Jerry Scheff) / Piano Solo (Tony Brown) / Electric Piano Solo (Bobby Ogdin) / School Day / Hurt / Walk That Lonesome Road (JD Sumner & The Stamps) / Hound Dog / Can’t Help Falling In Love / Closing Vamp.

I REALLY DON'T WANT TO KNOW

Really

I Really Don’t Want To Know includes another gig from the May/June 1977 tour, this time from May 30th 1977 in Jacksonville, FL. This concert was re-scheduled to make up for the cancelled April 3rd 1977 date. It is amazing how much Elvis appearance had improved following his troubles in Philadelphia and Baltimore. Possibly because Ginger Alden was back with him on tour, Elvis was inspired enough to include a new song into his act: a short but really neat version of I Really Don’t Want To Know. Other highlights are My Way, a great Trying To Get To You and a powerful Hurt. Even Hound Dog is performed much better than usual, in a sort of 1972 “slow & fast” style.

This previously unreleased recording is taken from an early generation copy of the original tape and the sound was enhanced for your optimal listening pleasure.

Tracklisting: Also Sprach Zarathustra / CC Rider / I Got A Woman – Amen / Love Me / Fairytale / You Gave Me A Mountain / Jailhouse Rock / O Sole Mio (Sherrill Nielsen) - It’s Now Or Never / Trying’ To Get To You / Little Sister / Teddy Bear - Don’t Be Cruel / And I Love You So / My Way / Band Introductions / Early Mornin’ Rain / What’d I Say / Johnny B. Goode / Drum Solo (Ronnie Tutt) / Bass Solo (Jerry Scheff) / Piano Solo (Tony Brown) / I Really Don’t Want To Know (with 2 false starts, 1st live version) / Electric Piano Solo (Bobby Ogdin) / School Day / Hurt / Hound Dog (slow & fast) / Can’t Help Falling In Love / Closing Vamp.

* The Elvis Memorial Benefit kick-started the struggling U. S. S. Arizona Memorial fund. The idea was inspired by a column written by newspaper editor George Chaplin.

Attempts to raise money for the memorial had run dry, so Chaplin wrote newspapers across the United States about the problem. Reading about this in Los Angeles, Colonel Parker conceived the idea of a charity concert, with the proceeds going towards the construction of what would become Hawaii’s Number One visitor attraction.

The Hillbilly Cat Live

Graceland Records is planning a new CD release, a digipack with gorgeous photos and liner notes plus technical information. It features one of the best shows from his August Las Vegas engagement, namely the August 23rd, 1970 dinner show, taken from the original unspoiled – a tremendous audience recording! This recording was partly released in 1970 on vinyl as "The Hillbilly cat, Live", but it was a combined version of 2 different shows, August 23rd dinner and 24th Midnight show. The sound quality was great for the time the time. Rumors were that a professional recording (soundboard) was used. This is not the case; a stereo tape recorder was used directly in front of the center stage. Graceland Records was lucky enough to work with the original audiocassette. These days the possibilities to improve an audience tape are far greater than they were in 1970, so this recording now sounds significantly better than it did on the 1970 vinyl bootleg.

Now Finally for the first time ever on CD.

One of the first bootlegs ever, "THE HILLBILLY CAT LIVE" A much sought-after double album from Canada, released back in 1970 with a mix of two shows, edited to create one powerhouse performance.

Now for the first time the complete tape recording of the first of these 2 shows: the August 23rd 1970 dinner show, which was only partly released on the double album and now in full, with only the last part of "Suspicious Minds" & "Can't help falling In Love" repaired with audio from the August 24th midnight show. Due to a little mistake the tape was turned off too fast, but he wrote down the set list.

This show is hilarious, wild and loose: Elvis was in great spirits & the Hollywood cameras were gone. The many false starts indicates that he was fooling around and having a great time doing it.. With probably the craziest intro ever to "Hound Dog", a wild and rocking version. With great renditions of "Tiger Man" "That's all Right" and "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" All phenomenal performances..

A fantastic and entertaining show where he combines humor and true entertainment. A sparkling show with no weak spots. Elvis was on top of his game ! This is definitively one of the finest performances of this season.

Do not miss your chance to obtain another winner from Graceland records !

FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER ON CD!

One of the very first bootlegs, first released in 1970:

THE HISTORIC ... THE HILLBILLY CAT "LIVE"! THIS WAS A SOUGHT-AFTER DOUBLE LP FROM CANADA, FEATURING TWO 1970 VEGAS SHOWS (AUGUST 23 DS & AUGUST 24 MS) EDITED TOGETHER AS ONE POWERHOUSE PERFORMANCE. MANY BELIEVED IT WAS A SOUNDBOARD RECORDING, BUT IT WAS SIMPLY A GREAT STEREO TAPE, MADE FROM A FRONT, CENTER TABLE. NOW FOR THE FIRST TIME, HEAR IT STRAIGHT FROM THE ORIGINAL TAPES, ENHANCED USING 21ST-CENTURY TECHNIQUES. The AUGUST 23 DS is the COMPLETE TAPE, which was only partly released on the double album. Only the last part of "Suspicious Minds" and "Can't Help Falling In Love" were missed by the taper, and repaired using the AUGUST 24 MS.

This show is hilarious, a wild and loose Elvis was in great spirits, as the Hollywood cameras were gone. Listen for perhaps the most delicious intro ever to "Hound Dog," a wild and rocking version, for sure one of the best of this season. Also hear great renditions of "Tiger Man," "That's All Right" and "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'"!

This is a fantastic and entertaining evening, where Elvis combined his unique humor with true entertaining -- a sparkling show with no weak spots. No wonder it became one of the first, and most legendary Elvis bootleg LPs! 01. That's All Right 02. I Got A Woman / Ave Maria (excerpt) 03. Tiger Man 04. Monologue 05.
